I recently had an article published in the Burlington Free Press 
 
Music education is traditionally thought of as an "extra" which constantly puts it a risk of being cut.
I would propose that is far more important than that , categorically.
I will speak about jazz education , as it is my expertise, but all music teachers will have similar stories and 
insight. I hope discussions will be sparked as a consequence.
This past August at inservice at the beginning of the school year, we  at Harwood Union High School were addressed by a former Vt Commissioner of Education who spoke about what companies in the 21st century want to see in employees. The tie- in  is that within the "Transformation of Schools"  , that is driving much research work and policy ,  we need to have a keen eye on what a high school graduate should look like from all perspectives.
